Can You Submit Form 8802 Online?

Many taxpayers want to know whether Form 8802 can be submitted online when requesting a U.S. tax residency certificate from the IRS. The clearest answer is that Form 8802 can be prepared online, and the IRS user fee can be paid electronically, but the completed Form 8802 application package must still be submitted to the IRS using an accepted method.

The confusion usually comes from the difference between online preparation, online payment, Pay.gov upload, and IRS processing. These are related steps, but they are not the same thing.

Can Individuals Submit Form 8802 Online?

Can Form 8802 Be Faxed Instead of Mailed?
